Here are some examples of recent event and press coverage.

2007

Mountain Mayhem 3 Part Series – What Mountain Bike Magazine
CycleActive instructors were asked to spend a day training the WMTB race team for the biggest 24 hour mountain bike event in Europe – Mountain Mayhem.  The first feature followed the riders as they had advice on bike setup and preparation, the second covered the full training programme and the third was all about the event itself.

The Bike Show at Earls Court
The major new mountain bike track, sponsored by Volvo and Bikerader, was managed by CycleActive this year, in conjunction with the CTC.  Ian Warby of the CTC was responsible for track construction then Chris Ford of CycleActive took over to manage the sessions, plan the coaching and keep things running smoothly.

Merida Marathon Series and Magazine
For the second year running CycleActive were asked to be the official training partner to this, the largest series of marathon biking events in the UK .  Covering guided rides, adult skill sessions and junior skill sessions we provide a big service, assisted by sponsors Buff Headwear.

Adventure Sports Supplement – The Guardian
A writer from the Guardian newspaper came for a day of coaching in The Lake District with one of our top instructors.  The focus was on getting out into the country by bike for those who had seldom experienced mountain biking.

Cumbria Bikefest – launch show
CycleActive celebrated its 10 th anniversary at the Bikefest and was also responsibly for planning the main marathon course, since the festival was on our “home turf”.  We featured in publications across the county and nationally as the provider of youth and adult training as well as guided rides from the event village.

2006 and previous

Tyres, Trails and Tapas – What Mountain Bike Magazine
In this glowing review of our Spanish holidays the writer said:
“Tricky or technical sections are flagged up in advance by Gary (the guide) with helpful tips for successfully negotiating everything from a tight hairpin to a rock step.”
“You're unlikely to meet anyone else on the trails, so it's an ideal getaway from British riders looking for something a bit different.”
“A week of top-class riding.”

Run for the Hills - Sunday Independent
In the run up to summer holidays this leading UK Sunday paper ran a series on how to help your children enjoy the great outdoors. Half of the feature was dedicated to mountain biking advice from our own Chris Ford, covering how to choose routes suitable for young riders, preparation for rides, motivation, equipment selection and other useful tips for families.

Trials to Trails – What Mountain Bike Magazine
The magazine commissioned us to write this series of four skills development features, focussing on how improved bike handling can help your trail riding. The series was such a success that we launched weekends with the same name and structure. These now form an integral part of our skills programme.

Lakeland Odyssey – Singletrack Magazine
The main man from Singletrack, Chipps Chippendale, came on our Lakeland Epic tour and was so impressed that he decided to write not one but two features on it. What's more, each feature was 9 pages long!

In summing up the trip Chipps said, “It was a fantastic way of seeing the Lakes in a condensed time and highly recommended for newcomers and old hands alike.” He was also kind enough to send us all of his pictures, so check them out on the Lakeland Epic gallery page.

Early Learners – What Mountain Bike Magazine
The magazine wanted to run a feature on teaching children to ride off-road, and commissioned our own Chris Ford to write it for them. This soon became a family event as eldest son Tom was chosen for all of the photos! The feature was such a hit with readers, with its easy to follow advice for parents, that a follow up has recently been completed by Chris for publication in 2006.

Recharge Your Riding – What Mountain Bike Magazine
Matt Skinner from What Mountain Bike joined one of our 4-day Mountain skills courses in The Lakes and wrote “The Lake District offers some truly amazing riding, but hook up with CycleActive and you'll be well on the way to becoming a rider to match the terrain.” At the end of the two features Matt went on to say, “If the proof's in the pudding then we've got to say it's the most proof-soaked pudding we've ever had the pleasure of tasting.”

Ethiopia and Spain reviews – MBR Magazine
The editor from MBR was so interested in Ethiopia that he choose to come out himself, to see what the tour was all about. He wrote, “Unlikely as it may seem, Ethiopia is a great mtb destination. Big mountains, friendly people, simple living.”
One of their other staff writers came out to our Spanish centre, and was equally as impressed. Having ridden all over Europe for the magazine he finished his feature with, “As good as anything we've ridden in Spain before.”

A first tour review in The Saturday Telegraph
Adventure Travel Editor and experienced traveller Richard Madden received the press release we sent out on launching CycleActive, back in 1996. He responded by offering to come on the very first trip we ran and write about it for the paper's travel section, but it had to be the first one. Naturally we were incredibly nervous, feeling that his visit could make or break us. We needn't have worried though, because Richard was truly impressed and wrote afterwards, “An excellent first tour...this has to be a success!”
