The alpine chain of mountains that is so well known in France, Italy and Austria extends east into the seldom explored Karavanke Alps of Slovenia. The mountain biking here was discovered by our very own local expert, and he has developed unprecedented knowledge of Slovenia’s secret singletrack.
Tour Highlights:
- Miles of flowing trails and twisting singletrack
- Excellent hill-top accommodation with pool and views
- Local produce at farms and mountain cafes for lunch
- Expert local guiding and two guides
Riding the ridgelines of the White Valley Ride or the Podpetza Mountain Ride, with 360 degree views down into the valleys as the singletrack snakes off into the distance – this is what Slovenian mountain biking is all about.
The trails here were cut by mules, miners and huntsmen over a hundred years of non-biking development, and only recently have they been discovered by us. Local legend and CycleActive expert guide Dixi, working with his son Anej, have pioneered mountain biking here. In his past life as a geological surveyor and then environmental engineer Dixi roamed the mountains, got to know the landowners, and explored every corner of this breathtaking landscape.
When mountain bikes arrived, Dixi was among the first to seize the new opportunity to cut trails, often on private land belonging to his long known local contacts. Now, from his farmhouse on a hill top with views of the mighty Petza Mountain, Dixi and his son lead rides into these mountains that they know so intimately. They also explore further – it’s no surprise that Dixi is the man the Slovenian Tourism Authority brought in to create the first map of mountain bike trails in the country.
If you want a unique mountain biking experience then this holiday, with our incredible local team, has to be on your list.
