The Eden Valley is in the north of England, close to the Scottish border and Hadrian’s Wall, separating the dramatic peaks of The Lake District from the highest summits of The Pennines. The Eden Circular Tour takes you on a 120-mile loop of the entire region. With great accommodation, bags transferred ahead each day and the best possible route information (because this is where we’re based) you’re sure to have a wonderful time.
Tour Highlights:
- Discover Eden – England’s hidden cycling treasure
- Map provided with main route and optional excursions
- Selected cycle-friendly guesthouses
- Bags moved each day
Overview
The tour begins in Penrith and takes you south through rolling farmland, green fields, tiny backroads and the red-stone villages of the central valley. There are options to ride high up towards the Shap Fells or stay low, frequently riding alongside bubbling streams which make for excellent lunch spots (we’ll recommend the best riverside pubs and cafes!)
Day two brings you round under the shadow of the Pennines, following the fellside roads that skirt close to Cross Fell, highest summit on the Pennine Way. You’ll also pass the famous Village Bakery of Melmerby and the ancient stone circle of Long Meg and Her Sisters. The last day takes you close to the Scottish border and Hadrian’s Wall before the journey back on the remote roads behind the Lakeland peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra.
Each day is planned to include a variety of optional extras so those who are of average fitness can enjoy around 40 miles per day while fitter riders can go up to 70 miles per day, and include some big hills in the process.
