Cycling is a fabulous way to experience the magic of Africa. Spinning through the villages, the lush tea plantations, the Rift Valley mountains and on to the beaches of Lake Malawi – all the time with the sounds, smell and freedom of Africa around you. It’s fast enough to watch the scenery change but slow enough to let you soak it up, to meet the people and enjoy every moment.
Tour Highlights:
- Lush tea fields, rolling mountains and beautiful lakeshore
- Vehicle, boat and walking safaris in Liwonde National Park
- High standard of accommodation and food
- Professional UK and local guides working in partnership
Overview
There are few places in the world as perfect for cycle exploration as Malawi. We know, because we’ve been biking here since the first free, independent elections took place in 1994, and it’s been a favourite of ours ever since.
The Great Rift Valley runs right through this long, thin country, shaping the landscape and creating variety and interest at every turn. Our tour takes advantage of this, giving you amazing bike rides and a great insight into the many different cultures and communities as we travel.
This is a country full of contrasts: we explore the impossibly green and lush tea plantations that hug the Mulanje Mountains, just after crossing the dusty Phalombe plains; we visit forest lodges and explore mountain roads with views across the Mozambique border, then head off to enjoy safaris on the tropical shores of the Liwonde River.
The tour is supported by vehicle and by both a CycleActive guide and an experienced local guide - giving real flexibility in terms of how much you cycle. So whether you want to rise early for an extra dawn ride, take time out to walk or hike, or just relax and enjoy the warm welcome and wonderful country, we’ll help you get the most out of your time in this hidden but beautiful corner of Africa.good selection of spares.
