| The highest summits of North Africa are in Ethiopia, and in fact the Ethiopian Plateau is the largest mountain range on the continent. This country – the size of France and Spain combined – is the only African nation that successfully resisted colonisation. As a destination for real exploration and a land full of surprises, from the proud people to the incredible history to the breathtaking beauty of the countryside, Ethiopia is hard to beat.
