Trail Centre Day Courses
|
|
| |
These superb one-day courses bring our expert tuition to the best trail centres for coaching across England, Wales and Scotland. Each course is packed into a well structured day so you come away brimming with new ideas and sharper skills.
These one-day courses are run at Forestry Commission centres renowned for their great biking and top-notch teaching areas. With small groups (max 6) we can get right out onto the trails and find the best sections to use for coaching and developing your skills. By working on sections of trail with expert observation, feedback and review you will get a real understanding of the skills, how to apply them and how to push your riding to the next level. There are three courses to choose from, run out of four locations:
The Courses:
Singletrack Skills
Today we focus on the skills needed to handle technical and high speed singletrack riding. We work on overall bike control, balance, brake control and then get into the detail of high and low speed cornering, berms, loose or rocky terrain, pumping for grip and for speed and possibly other skills (depending on time and group progress). This is probably the best thing you will ever buy to improve your trail centre riding.
Jumps and Drops
Tabletops, doubles and small lips are being built into more and more trails, but still most riders choose to roll over them or just hit them at speed and hope. This course shows you the right way to handle these obstacles and really start to enjoy riding over them. We work on body position and pumping techniques to control and guide takeoff, prepare for landing and teach you to control every element of the jump. It’s just one day but if you stay committed you’ll be jumping with good style and control by the time you leave.
Speed and Flow
This course is all about going very fast. If you want to race or just enjoy high speed riding on all parts of the trail then this is for you. This course is not one we programme into the schedule as it contains a mix of elements from the above two courses, can be run over 1,2 or 3 days and is generally booked by race teams, groups of friends or mountain bike clubs, rather than individuals. If you want to develop your speed on all parts of the trail – this is the way to do it.
Get Started
If you have been riding for a while but not really improving, or are new to the sport of mountain biking – this is the course for you. Getting professional instruction early on means you learn the best ways to ride all parts of the trail, so your cornering, braking, flow through rocky terrain and overall bike control will get a huge boost in just one day. Get the most out of yourself and your bike with a get started course.
Every course has been developed in line with the latest teaching practices. These come from over 10 years of experience and our partnership with the CTC Instructor Award. The coaching and skill analysis techniques come right out of World Cup cross country and downhill performance plans. On booking you will be sent a detailed pre-travel pack with directions, recommended equipment, when to arrive and other useful information.
The Venues:
Glentress, Scotland
Famous for its range and quality of trails this is a great place to visit if you want a weekend of biking and some superb areas to learn on. The jumps in Spookey Wood are great for us and many sections of the black and red runs can be used for all of the courses.
Ae Forest, Scotland
Less famous than Glentress but those who know will tell you that the 24km Ae Line Trail and superb downhill course provide some of the best biking in Scotland. With less trail-traffic than Glentress this is a quieter place to use for coaching, with no shortage of great terrain to learn on and enjoy.
Cannock Chase, England
In the heart of England this area of trails has been popular with local riders since the very early days of mountain biking. Cannock is now a real mountain bikers hub with its own dedicated xc and downhill trails and an additional full xc trail due to open in 2008. It’s easy to access and provides plenty of challenges for all levels of rider.
Forest of Dean, England
(and Afan Forest Park, Wales)
In late 2008 we moved all of our Afan courses to the Forest of Dean and with great success. Although this centre is less well known it provides easy access from across the south of England, and is a great stop off on the way to a weekend in Afan. Best of all, though, is the stunning coaching terrain with very easy access from the trail head, and far less trail traffic than at Afan.
“We chose Chris Ford and the CycleActive instructors for our Olympic Talent Team Camp because of their infectious enthusiasm and unique brand of skills coaching. The training was pitched at exactly the right level for our riders who all made real progress during the weekend.”
Chris Furber, British Cycling Olympic Talent Coach. |
